Noor Weekend Academy(Sunday School @ MAPS)
Noor Weekend Academy is Muslim Association of Puget Sound's (MAPS') Sunday school program in Redmond, Washington. We provide Islamic Sunday School educational services and promote the teachings of Islam to Muslim youth and to inquiring non-Muslims.
Moreover, Noor Weekend Academy is a supplementary Islamic school for children who do not attend full-time Islamic school. It combines an Islamic education taught within an Islamic social setting where children can play and learn about Islam together. Noor Weekend Academy meets every Sunday during the academic year for three hours at the MAPS facility in Redmond, WA in the heart of Seattle's East side. It follows the Bellevue School District calendar for holidays in addition to the regular Muslim events calendar. The school is run by an all-volunteer staff, some of whom have been contributing at the school for 13 years. The school offers 10 classes at 6 levels for students aged 4 to 13+.
Please visit this website regularly for registration, announcements, updates, homework, and information about class cancellations. As this website and email are our main modes of communication, please provide accurate and complete email addresses in the registration form so that we can contact you when we need.
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
My name is Quratulain (Annie) Hassan. InshAllah, I will be leading Noor Academy as a principal with support from a wonderful team of volunteer parents. Being a mother of three daughters, I always love to volunteer at their schools. I started volunteering at public schools 8 years ago and now it became my passion to work with kids; either one-on-one or in a group.
A little about myself; I was born and raised in Pakistan and moved to the US 18 years ago. I graduated from San Jose State University, California with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Discrete Mathematics. I was a volunteer principal for 2 years at Weekend School of Islamic Society Of Central Jersey, New Jersey.
My passion is to reinforce the idea to give back to the community and instill the love of our wonderful Deen into our coming generations. I want to create an appropriate Islamic environment by not only engaging our young ones with stories of prophets but also by keeping an open discussion with them and helping them become proud of their unique identity as Muslims.
Given that our program provides supplemental education and we only meet with the kids once a week, we cannot succeed in achieving these goals without active reinforcement from the parents. I pray to Allah SWT from the depth of my heart to preserve the Imaan in the hearts of our amazing kids and make them sadqa-e-jaaria for us Ameen.
Sunday School will be closed for Spring break on April 7th and April 14th 2019
May 19, 2019 will be last of school for 2018-19 session. Please visit our website in the last week of August 2019 for next year registration.
